Sohreb- The Lord of the Universe

Sohreb- The Lord of the Universe

When Zal died Raustam was forced to take his place, since war had broken in his country. He left his wife with these words,"My love, before I leave I have one request to you." "Yes, my lord?" "Teach him well and make him worthy enough to surpass me."

The queen agreed. Raustam had shortly after left for war. The queen gave birth to Raustam's son within a few months but did not tell Raustam about this as she thought this would distract him from the war. He was named 'Sohreb'. Sohreb was always curious about his father and he always asked his mother,"Mother will we see father today" '"Soon" she would answer. As Sohreb grew older, he grew more and more curious of his father Raustam was still stuck in the war, he missed his wife. Sohreb soon grew into a mature young man. He had married soon and had a son. Even with all this Sohreb felt empty inside. He soon asked his mother,"Mother, may I please visit my father."
"No, my child I cannot afford to lose you, my only son." Sohreb looked unsatisfied, "Mother I want to see what kind of person he is. I want to grow to be him, so let me observe him and learn." The queen refused many times, but her son had always listened to her and said nothing back to her. It was time for the queen to listen to him. She reluctantly let him go.

He traveled through the rough lands of Persia and reached to a camp where his father was defending his kingdom from the foreign attackers. He kept only one thing in mind. His mother said to him,"My son, to make sure that you find your father you must keep this in mind. Your father has white hair." Sohreb went near the camp. He saw a man with white hair but he was not sure if it was his father. He decided to test him. Sohreb asked,"Greetings, may I duel with you?"
"Sure, but who are you?" asked Raustam. "I am sent here to kill you!" They dueled. It was an epic duel that lasted for days. Sohreb had great swordsmanship but Raustam's experience overpowered his skill. Soon the answer was clear. Sohreb was stabbed in the stomach.

Before he died he said this much to Raustam,"You truly are my father. I am Sohreb your son." Raustam's eyes had filled up. Raustam truly regretted what he did . He let out a scream of wrath.
