Horus and the Throne of Egypt

Horus and the Throne of Egypt

In the history-rich land of the River Nile, there was a king -called Osiris-and a queen-called Isis. They were expecting a baby soon. Isis was the god of magic and wisdom. King Osiris and queen Isis were overjoyed, they were planing to have the biggest birth ceremony for their child. While the king and queen were thriving in their happiness, Seth's anger only grew wilder.

Seth was the god of destruction and domination, he was also the younger brother of king Osiris. He was very jealous of him. The only hope he had was that his wife-Nephthys- was pregnant. Nephthys was the sister of Isis and god of the death experience, the same way how Isis was the god of the birth experience. Seth was still thinking of a way to get revenge on his misfortunes, that was by becoming king and killing Isis and his successor, of course. He always tried to calm his mind and tried not to think thoughts like this.

Soon, Nephtys found came over to him. She said to him,"My lord I have served you more than anyone else in the world, haven't I?" Seth replied,"Yes, my love why do you say this?" "My lord, the father of our child is... not you." "What!" "What I speak is the truth." "Who is it then?" Seth demanded, his eyes as red as blood "The father of this child is you brother, Osiris." Seth fell silent. All his wrong doings and misfortunes flowing through his mind. He finally said,"My brother?" Then he walked away. Osiris was in his chambers when Seth came to him. Seth said to him in a cordial voice,"Brother dear, come with me I have found something rather peculiar yet interesting." Osiris was curious and followed him. Seth showed him a fancy coffin. It was place on a long table. Seth exclaimed,"Brother doesn't this look fascinating!" Osiris said,"Yes, I suppose" "Brother could you put your back of this coffin and try to sleep in it. Just look at its level of comfort." Osiris felt uneasy yet he listened to his younger brother. As soon as Osiris stepped in the coffin. Seth took the lid of the coffin and locked the latch. Osiris was banging the lid and struggling to get out but it was all in vain. Seeing all this was Isis. As soon as Seth picked up the coffin, Isis hid behind the wall. Seth walked out of the palace and walked towards the River Nile. He threw the body into the river.

Isis was able to see all of this through the palace window. She was crying. After a few hours, Isis had ran to the River Nile and found the pieces of her husband. Osiris was resurrected and his embodiment was transformed into a god of the underworld. This eased Isis' sadness temporarily. Isis ran to her sister Nephthys. Isis told her everything she saw. Nephthys thought for a while and then said,"The only option you have is to run away from this place. Seth's goal is to become king, so if you stay here he will kill you and your unborn child." Isis took her advice and Nephthys-since she was also the god of flight- transported her sister to the city of Akhnaten. Before her departure to Akhnaten she consulted Thot the god of wisdom and the moon. Thot agreed with Nephthys's idea and he also blessed her unborn child with the all seeing eye. By nightfall Isis had reached Akhnaten.

Seth felt disturbed in his sleep. He was dreaming about his childhood. It was the memory in which Osiris was let to walk on the shores of the Nile river while Seth was forced to walk on the desert. Osiris was chosen as the king of Ra's- he was the god of the sun, it was said that he was born every morning in the east and died in the west-  empire while Seth was given nothing. "It was like my parents hated me" this thought resonated through his mind. Flashes of Osiris' last moments was imagined. Seth woke up. He went to tell Isis about the crime he had done but her chamber was empty. There was no one, he understood what happened and he knew what to do next. That night, Seth had hoisted a feast for the kingdom stating that he had become the king, which was an official declaration of his control over the kingdom. Wasting no time, Seth sent his troops to find Isis and her child and kill them.

Isis had given birth to her child on the outskirts of the city of Akhnaten. She said,"This is the child who will take the throne and take his father's revenge." Isis was carrying him. She soon reached the main city of Akhnaten. She went to a couple of houses in search of shelter and food for the baby. Most of the citizens could not understand her as she spoke Egyptian. Luckily, there was one woman who understood what she was saying. Isis asked,"Oh, kind woman! Will you please give me shelter for a few days?" the woman replied,"No, I know that if i let you in you will steal all my possessions." Isis moved on. She was depressed and was desperate in need of shelter so that she could hide from Seth, who must have declared himself the king. Isis walked towards the slums of Akhnaten. There she asked a woman,"Ma'am may I please stay with you for a few days? I will do anything you ask... just please let me take care of my child." The poor woman with a smile on her face said,"Please stay as long as you like and you don't have to do anything for me." Seeing her gratitude Isis gifted her with a lot of luxury and a lot of good fortune to come by her way. Isis had summoned three scorpions to guard her and her son. The scorpions had heard what the rich woman told Isis, so they asked her,"Oh mother of life, may we do you a favor by killing off that mean rich woman who did not give her shelter." Isis refused and told them not to do anything to that woman. The scorpions were not satisfied. They cooked up a plan to kill the rich woman's only son. So one of the scorpions went to the chambers of the rich woman's son and injected a poison in him.

The son was choking in a matter of seconds. Alerted by this sound the rich woman took her son and ran around the neighborhood in a desperate attempt for help, but the people in her colony didn't help her as they were of high class and thought that the boy's condition was contagious. The rich woman ran to the slums hoping and praying for help. Isis heard her cries. Isis ran outside and helped the rich woman. Isis healed her son. The rich woman apologized for assuming her to be a pauper and a thief. Isis forgave the rich woman. Isis was indignant at the scorpions for not listening to her, yet she simply told them,"Killing the child of a mother is worse than killing the mother." Isis had removed the poison from these scorpions, stating that they will not need it.

After the feast, Seth was still horrified of his childhood memories. He decided to go and meet is father and ask him why he raised them both differently. Seth traveled to were his father was. The sun. Ra used to sail the sun as though it was a boat. Seth on reaching, said,"Greetings, father" Ra shook his head at the salutation. Seth inquired,"Why was it that you undermined me and gave my brother all the comforts in the world? Do you hate me?" This question had caused a smile in Ra's face. Ra let out a small guffaw and answered,"No, my son I was preparing you for what I had in plan for you." Seth looked intrigued,"What plans did you have for me, father?"
"I was going to give you my position. As the overseer of mankind as the god of gods as the..."
"In this place? All alone. No, I cannot do it." Ra looked baffled,"But son you must, this is what I had in plan for you!" Seth knew that he couldn't convince his father. Seth drived his spear through his father's heart."Seth you..." Then Ra died.
Seth returned back to earth. Nephthys had given birth to Anubis, who had grown to be the god of death. When Seth reached, one of his soldiers had told him that Nephthys helped Isis get away. Seth without hesitation killed his beloved wife immediately. Isis had traveled to an unknown land by the morning. She feared that Seth would hear of the healing of the rich woman's child and realize it was her. She told no one of her departure.

The information of a child being magically healed had reached Seth's ears and he knew that this was the work of the kindness of Isis. Seth always thought of kindness as a weakness and this was proof of his belief. He went to Akhnaten and question the people in the slums, the rich woman and her son but none of the knew where Isis had gone. Seth felt hopeless.

Isis had been raising Horus for sixteen years now. She knew it was time to get the kingdom back. She had seen him grow into a wonderful person just like his father. She called upon him and told him the truth about everything. Horus was shocked. He immediately used his all seeing eye and reached Seth's palace. Seth did not recognize him at first but he had the same presence as that of his father. Seth screamed,"Horus!" They battled for what felt like days. Both of them were wounded but the eventually victor was Horus. Horus killed his uncle then and there
, hoping that his father can now rest in piece. He hoisted a celebration stating he was king and established that he was the god of the sky and bringer of justice. He brought his mother to his kingdom and they all celebrated. Isis wondered,"Your father must be so proud."
